FotoDocument
will
run a targeted arts education programme in partnership with the
Brighton Peace and Environment Centre (BPEC), for children
and young people in schools and youth groups. FotoDocument and BPEC
will create a photography-based education pack on the arts and
environment, illustrated with the exhibition photographs and developed
in consultation with children and young people. The pack will contain a
teacher’s guide and 20 large photo cards with activities on the reverse
and a CD containing additional images. The
programme
will enable young people, our future artists and policy
drivers, to feel enthused by art, be informed by it and to creatively
participate in it. The teaching packs and slide talks will initiate
arts engagement through thought, debate, creative response and action
in the specified curriculum areas (English, art, geography, science),
prompted by site visits to the exhibitions. Back in the classroom
children and young people will be encouraged to have a 'response' to
what they have experienced, supported by our educational materials,
which will develop their artistic capabilities and critical assessment.
On-line activities and downloadable materials from the exhibitions and schools programme will be available for both students and teachers to use. The pack will be marketed regionally and nationally through the Development Education Association (DEA) via their regional Development Education Centres and delivered to educators through in-service training sessions led by BPEC staff. BPEC is a recognised Global Learning and Development Education Centre and is conveniently situated across the road from Brighton Station. |
