FotoDocument is an innovative social enterprise providing an international public platform for documentary photography. It is unique in its approach, focusing primarily on positive responses to key global social, cultural and environmental issues. FotoDocument is a not-for-profit Company founded in Brighton, UK, by photographers Nina Emett and Howard Davies, to bring visibility to inspiring global initiatives as a force for potential change. We believe the striking and dynamic imagery of world-class photography is a powerful communication tool. FotoDocument will commission documentary photographers worldwide to produce photo essays on a social theme designed to educate and inspire the viewer. In 2011 we are focusing on the Environment. Whilst exposing some of the hard facts around environmental degradation and climate change, there will be an emphasis on solution-focused projects. We believe the viewer will be more proactive and create positive change in their daily lives if they can literally visualise the outcomes. The final showcase of photographs will be widely exhibited both on-line and at UK and international venues. We aim to reach a wide audience, using innovative public spaces for display including railway stations, seafront promenades, billboards or open-air projections onto building facades. The photo essays will also be used in a programme of educational workshops for schools, colleges and universities accompanied by additional web-based resources, slide talks and panel debates. Running concurrently with the main portfolio of work, there will be a fringe documentary project through which photographers can upload their images from around the world on the related topic. A selection of these photographs will be included in our public exhibitions. It is our aim is to create a hub for networking and debate within the international documentary photography community while providing a globally accessible visual and information resource. Further details about FotoDocument’s work can be found in pdf format here. |
